Stencil Outline

I made the changes you asked for with the horns. The dragon's top claw is the same because it doesn't wrap around far enough to show on your stomach and it wouldn't look right if I extended it out farther. Instead I made his back leg longer with a better claw that will be tearing the skin.

The wing can't really wrap around to your front side. I made more bones and decayed skin there, which will be more obvious after I shade. To wrap it around to your side and stomach, it would have to cover the dragon's middle and the tribal tree, and honestly, it just wouldn't look that good.

This design entry is just the stencil outline. I still have all of the shading to do, and it's going to be AWESOME! I think it's the coolest dragon I've ever done. There are so many kinds and styles of tribal going on here in so many layers... I'm pretty proud of it :-) I've been doing tattoo designs a long time, and I've never seen one like this. However, I can't get finished before time runs out on this contest. If you could extend the time again, I'd really appreciate it. Or there is one other option: If you love the way this design is going enough to choose it, we have 7 days to continue working on it and communicating after the contest ends. You don't release the prize money until you are happy with the final design. Seven days would be plenty of time for us to work together to finish this design.

It's been a really fun challenge for me to create this design for you. Cover-ups are not easy! Thanks for your fast and thorough feedback. I hope we can continue to work together to finish this design :-)

Best Wishes,
-Carrie

I think this looks really good! I love how you wrapped the tribal around the dragon. Could I see what it would look like with a more vicious looking claw coming out and grabbing my skin under my chest. Also maybe some wings coming down and forward to my stomach, or whatever works. I was thinking skeleton decayed looking wings to match the head. The horns look good how they are, but I was wanting to see how they would look as unbranched thicker dragon horns with the branching tribal behind. Thank you for the work!

Rough Sketch

Of course it needs a lot of shading, but here is the rough pencil sketch of the full design. It will fit in the area I submitted before. The tree will be shaded dark to balance the dark tribal areas coving the old tattoos. The dragon skin will be shaded lighter. What do you think?

Yes! This looks really good. Can the design be extended so that it comes down my side and comes back up my stomach? Sort of like a "J" shape. I really like what you're doing so far! Thanks!

Placement

I just wanted to be sure that I understand your directions on the size and placement, so I made a quick sketch. Is this what you mean? I just scribbled some where I think the design should be in black pen. Is the size ok? Can the top on the back come across your shoulders that far to the right to incorporate your bird on your back?

And you guessed my plan for the trees, lol. I am feeling this design is about a spooky forest scene. I started drawing a deer, and he became a dragon... Like an accidental encounter with a monster in a forest that you thought was a deer at first. I think a good tattoo should always have meaning or tell a story.

Feed back

I like the design so far, and I'm anticipating the finished shading because I think it looks good with three separate shades. I was also wanting the tattoo to go down my side starting behind my shoulder and finishing below my waste line. I wanted it to travel across my waist line, to about midway, and come up my stomach every so often. Also, coming toward my center every now and again as it comes down my side might look good.
The body of this dragon would probably look good for the back. I was also thinking of a spooky tree. Really anything spooky or mysterious would be great. I was thinking of blending in magical symbols in the background , but I can't find/think of any that would look good. Maybe scratch the symbols idea unless you can think of any that would work. I also like anything Celtic, but again I cannot think of anything that would fit. Thank you for the work.

I'm running out the door right now, but I wanted to tell you this looks AWESOME. I'll give you some more feed back when I get home. Thank you!

Hello! This is what I've been working on. The left area is your chest, the middle with the skull is your shoulder and bicep, and the right area will be your back.
I had started with a deer skull on your arm, and it began to look like a dragon, so I'm continuing to add dragon details since you are leaning that way anyway. The tattoo on your chest is a hard cover-up. I just made the best looking tribal that I could, and it will be mostly dark black with shaded 3D areas wherever possible to make it look like faceted metal. The deer/dragon will have more texture and be more light and shading, so it looks like bone. Right now I have just shaded in the darker tribal so you can see where the contrast will be, so don't judge the shading too harshly yet. It's VERY unfinished.
On your back, I have a lot more space to work with, and the cover up is easier, so I'm not sure what I'll do. I could do a second dragon, or the body of this dragon's head... Of course the horns on the other side of the skull/head will be the same.
Let me know how you feel about it so far, and I'll keep working.

Best Wishes,
Carrie
