My Mistake

I gotcha on this one. I misunderstood what you said.

?

Now I'm confused, haha :-) I'm not sure what you mean about coloring just the doves white. In the one with white ink, I colored the highlights on the doves, on the light rays, on the hands, the name banners, the angel, the cross/scale, and on the clouds a little. On the one that was just skin tone, I used no white at all. Does that answer your question? If not, let me know and I'll try again, haha.

Clarity

Are you saying to color just the doves white?

Placement and Colors

The placement diagram shows what I've been imagining. Remember, your tattoo artist will adjust sizes and spaces as needed to fit you.

On the plain skin color, my computer editing did something weird, and the grey looks kind of red. I couldn't get it out... But I'm a free-hand artist, not a computer artist, so photo editing isn't my strong suit. I think it still gives you an idea of how the grey will look on your skin. The lightness and darkness and contrast is in the control of the tattoo artist, anyway.

I really LOVE the skin color with white ink. It's always so 3-D and beautiful. I hope you choose to get it done that way. No matter if you choose to use white ink or not, a great tattoo deserves to be sunscreened when you will be outside for a long time. Tanning is the most destructive thing you can do to a tattoo.

Well, if you have any other questions or requests, you can still message me here after the contest ends. I also make edits after contests end all the time, if you think of something you want. There are 7 days after the contest to work with your designer (me, hopefully) on the Design Transfer Page. You don't release the prize until you are happy with it. This was a fun contest, and you have been great about fast, effective feedback. Thank you!

Best Wishes,
Carrie

Thanks

Thank you for the clarity. I have an artist picked out that is very good with black wash as he calls it. The only issue is the wait to get in with him to do the work.

ps

The dots on the doves are their little curled up feet. That's how they have them when they fly. If they are distracting, your tattoo artist could just leave them out.

Answers

Later today I'm going to print this out on some skin colored paper and show you what it can look like with white ink. Some tattoo artists use white a lot, and some don't. They say that if you don't use sunscreen, tanning will fade the white badly. I think it's worth it, because it makes everything really look 3-D on your skin. The other alternative to white ink is to shade everything that is not white in at least a light grey. That way your plain skin becomes the white. Either way would look great. It is just your preference and how committed you are to taking care of your skin once the art is on it.
Also, I will be posting a diagram of the placement for you. Remember, the design is just a guide for your tattoo artist. He or she will be tattooing by hand, so it will not be a perfect copy. Sizes and placement will be altered to fit your body, and to fit the tattoo artist's style. Be sure to go visit several artists and look at their portfolios. Look for someone who does good black and grey work, and show them your design and talk about how they would do it. Not every artist can do this design, but a good one can.
As for the font, I do think it will be fine. The tattoo artist may adjust the size and thickness, but the style is very tattooable.
Don't worry about asking me too many questions. I'm happy to answer anything you would like to know.

Suggestions

I wanted to know if the lettering style for the names is something that will come our right in the tat? I like them but I am thinking about this if it were to go on my body. Becasue the lettering is so wide or blocky (for lack of a better words) will they come out clear on my skin? Also I noticed dots or circles on the doves and wanted to know what those are? I only have the one other tat that I do not particularly like so I want to be sure this time. So please give me as much information as possible.
I am not being critical I am just looking at this as if it is on my body. I love the re design!

Shading

I also wanted to know about the shading of the tat. Everything looks good against a white back ground. In your experiance is a darker shading better?

Re-Design

I made the changes you requested. As it turned out, I really do like the change in the Giovanni banner placement :-)

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to improve the design.

Banner

I could put the Giovanni banner up in His hand, but it just flows more naturally from His fingers. There is room for it higher in His hand, though.

Design

Yes I would like the hand open like the other one but with the spike through it. No color just drops of blood, not to many just a few. The Angel is fine the way she is good call I did not want anything sexy. As far as the lamb could you have the wings of the Angel lowered (I guess in the downward position if that makes sense) and the hands of the Angel together as if she were praying. Ray and clouds are perfect. I like how the banners with the names are going across the Angel and Scale. The hand on top the banner is off to the side. Is there anyway you could make it the same as the others and have it going through the middle? Maybe have the hand holding or something. I am as Artistic as a rock so sorry if I am confusing.

Sure

I can try to do something before the deadline. And thank you for taking my commentary in the way I intended.

So, you would like the nail/spike through an open hand. Do you want the hand basically like the other open hand, just on His left? No color, right? Or would you like some red on the blood?

Do you like the light rays? The clouds?

Is everything placed where you would like it?

Is the angel ok? The lamb? I though that since she represents you daughter, you wouldn't want her to be sexy, just beautiful. If I'm wrong about that, just let me know and I'll change her too.

Let me know what you would really like to see, and I'll get started editing.

Thanks,
Carrie

Extension of Contest

Hi I wanted to let you know I have extended the contest till this Friday ending around this time. There was another artist that said they were not able to upload their design so I am giving him the opportunity. I like the detail in your design. I wanted to know if you could do something diffrent. As far as the doves it does not matter to me if they are there. I like them but I am looking for something more masculine. Can you have the scale going through the hand instead of holding it? Bascially the hand will be open and the spike would be comming through the other side with some drops of blood. If covering up the old tat is limiting your creativity please do not worry about the cover up. I am looking for the best design possible. If that means not covering up the old tat I am okay with that. My decision was coming down to yours and one other artists.

Design

I am not worried about hurting anyones fellings regarding which design I will choose. I agree totally with you that at the end of the day I will have to live with my decision and what I put on my body for life.
I apriciate the open candor regarding this contest.

Choice

I also just wanted to say, I can see that there are a couple of other artists who have submitted several times and gotten 5 stars. You may have been working with them, giving feedback and they were making changes, etc. I know it would be hard to choose a different design than the one an artist has been working on with you. I think Contest Holders feel "committed" at this point many times. But I hurt wanted to remind you to keep an open mind as you make your decision. This is a competition, and we all know it. This tattoo will be on your skin forever, and you should pick the design that you love most. Don't choose a design because you feel committed to a person across the world you don't even know. The real commitment is the time you will be spending in the tattoo shop, and then wearing your skin the rest of your life.

I hope I don't sound impolite here. I don't mean to be. I only wanted you to make the best decision for you.

Best Wishes,
Carrie

Layout

I think I captured what you described wanting in the layout of your design. I also added the doves and the lamb as symbols of God's grace.

You can see the old tattoo on your shoulder. It is in the dark clouds on the left side of the picture. Your tattoo artist should be able to blend it in a little better than that. However, it may show through as much as this. I just always try to give a very realistic view of what a cover-up will look like. Only black covers black ink, of course.

You can also use the covered old tattoo as a reference for where this design would fit on your body. It goes across your shoulder blade, and onto your shoulder, and wraps around your arm in a half sleeve. Angalina's design will show on the front of your arm, and Daniel's design will be on the back side. On your underside of your arm, the clouds and rays of light will tie together.

Because your body is not flat, your tattoo artist will have to draw this out on you, or maybe use several stencils traced from this design and placed onto you separately. Because of this, he or she can get it to fit you perfectly and make sure all the children's designs show well.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope you like this design!

Best Wishes,
Carrie
