Extensions

Am I the only one who doesn't like the never ending extensions? Seems like contest after contest gets extended even when there are over 10 designs! Bust your ass to get a design done and then they just extend it.........seems like the only way there should be an extension is if there are NOT 10 designs!

How many times do you see tons of submissions only to have the contest holder change their mind and want a completely different idea! Almost enough to make me hit the road already.......

I don't understand when the contest has multiple high ratings and lots of entries but extends on and on forever? I also think it's wrong for someone to ask a contest holder to do an extension and then not even enter. It get's frustrating to work and put all your time in for a specific deadline only to see that deadline turn into a never-ending void when you could have been focusing on a different piece.

They need to stick to their policy.. If a contest receives 10+ designs, then great, thats what they paid for.. If they don't receive what they want, then thats too bad.... Contest holder can pay for another contest if they want it extended.. I don't know, extending the contests benefits the client and the site for obvious reasons.. but means us artists have to wait and extra 2 weeks before we see any money.. Plus its plenty of time for new artists to come along and snatch the prize... Frustrating isn't it?

i agree! the policy should be enforced or its useless. if the client provided ratings, feedback, and answered questions and still hasn't found a design they love, the contest can be extended. if they haven't received 10 unique designs, the contest can be extended. if they irresponsibly forgot about their contest, too damn bad. they only have themselves to blame for not getting what they want and that's the penalty. i'd never take a deadline seriously if i knew i could get an extension. i'd also blow off doctor's appointments if it weren't for the missed appointment charge.

Eviscerates, Urban Mythology and Chicktattoo, I agree with all of you 5000 percent! Swooping in on a contest at the last second and asking for an extension sucks. Begging for an extension with a ton of excuses and never posting anything sucks equally. Sometimes, there are good reasons for an extension, but here lately, this hasn't been the case. There has been some pretty brash rule-bending/breaking going on as of late and in Chicktattoo's words: It's enough to make me hit the road!
I really liked it here in the beginning. there was a sense of urgency. You had to pick and choose which contests were most appealing to you and decide what you could complete in the allowed time and let the other contests go to other talented artists. All of the contest holders get taken care of one way or the other. Now, we all scramble to finish and then sit around for days and days and sometimes weeks on end waiting for the tardy artists with time management issues or "I want it all" issues to cross the finish line after the race is over and the crowd has gone home.
I have waited awhile to post on this topic, because I hate to be pissed and rant on a forum, but even after waiting, while I am posting, I find I am still just as P.O.d as I was then.
By the way, your artwork is outstanding! All 3 of you!

Perhaps the rule should be not just 10 design submissions, but 10 design submissions from DIFFERENT artists. That way, the CH is definitely getting 10 original designs minimum ( and not 6 versions from one artist of a similar design that they may not even like, plus 4 others or whatever)....I think that would help everyone a little.....

thanks redshoe and congrats on getting the hula sex kitten contest!
their policy says 10 unique designs and they don't count variations of the same design as separate unique entries, which is great because i can submit my rough layouts without worrying about using up one of the 10.
an example of tortuous extensions is the sun and moon contest. the first comment i see is march 8th and today is june 24th! i count 5 extensions! i'm not even in that contest and it's pissing me off. i know that the client has provided ratings and feedback and answered questions, fulfilling the requirement of getting an extension (singular), but 5 extensions is ridiculous. i think someone is testing the site to see how long they can string along artists. jk, that's my paranoia speaking.

REALLY???? I didnt know this!!! I was just on another thread talking about how submitting multiple versions of one design breaks that system. Is there someone reviewing the designs to make sure there are ten unique entries?

i'm sure there is, but i'm not sure how strict they are because there have been a lot of extensions lately that don't fill the requirements. i'm too lazy to go through all the closed contests to find the comment that confirmed that variations of 1 design don't count towards the 10 unique design guarantee. there was a contest with more than 10 designs submitted, but a few of them were variations of the same design by blinddog. the comment from the contest holder was something like: i was able to get an extension because some of the entries are different versions of the same design *cough* blinddog *cough*. i wish i could remember the name of the contest or at least what the design was, but my memory fails.

I thought contests could be extended whether or not they have ten entries, or even more than ten unique designs. But perhaps they do review a contest if someone makes a complaint about having not enough unique designs? Has anyone ever done a design and worked hard and then had the contest revoked and the CH refunded because they DIDNT extend it and DIDNT get ten designs? (I have seen contests end and be paid with less than ten, but I suppose that is up to a CH if they are happy or not)
