The artistic blood of my mother flows from my heart to my fingertips. Though my interests OFTEN change, art has always remained. Growing up friends, family, and faculty would constantly say, "you will be a famous artist some day." I drew for my parents, for my friends, for the girls i liked. I drew for their reactions, the smiles, the looks of awe, the praise. I never drew for money. But also, young as I was, I felt like I would never be able to support a family with my art. Fast forward to present day, I am grown with a wife and children. I make a comfortable living as a firefighter/EMT. A stable job I love with potential for career advancement. Although it had been suggested by friends and family here and there, it wasnt until nearly two years ago, that i decided to pursue the craft of tattoo. It has taken that long to get to the point Im at now. I knew the transition from pen and paper, to needle and skin would not be simple. If I lived in the city I would have went about learning by becoming an apprentice at a shop. But I am here living on the rez. I bought books, dvds, my own equipment. I read and read, practiced and practiced. I used fruit skin, and fake skin, eventually human skin. I did my first tattoo on my own leg. It was a step I promised myself I would take before tattooing anybody else. I was happy with it. Tattoo vets can point out the flaws, but I felt it was good for my first. I have done a few tattoos, but most of my time is spent with all the responsibilities of life. When I do get some free time, I enjoy creating flash.
