Tribal Gemini tat. If I decide to actually use your design after someone tweeks it to perfection I'll pay double the prize
Either right thigh or right upper chest just below collar bone. Approximately 3 tall inches by 4 or 5 inches wide give or take. The base of the design is the tribal Gemini sign symbol. This can be solid black or better yet two tone black and gray with a strong tribal look. Let's make it look like someone really felt like taking the time make it detail oriented & one of a kind. The upper and lower "bars" of the Gemini symbol will have that tribal band look and probably intertwine a bit toward the outside longer on the top to have the "wings" look. I have a link to a similar design if there is a way to send it to you guys. I have faith though! In the center of the symbol will be the moon... in DETAIL. In a realistic halftone look want this part to pretty much look as real as a photo with lots of depth/dimension. The big thing is that you look at some moon pics for reference, which I also have a link to if necessary, so that the actual craters are in the correct positions. In other words... the real moon. On either side of the center of the symbol are two wolves just from their chest up... not the whole wolf. They are facing the moon in the center and howling. Not to sure if I want the wolves to look real or, like the Gemini symbol, a two tone mostly black and some grey so it isn't so cheap looking. I like detail and I'll pay for it. I suppose we can do the tribal looking wolves for now and I may end up paying for the wolves afterward if I'm not 110% on the tribal ones. As a matter of fact this design is just one of two I am going to run contest for. The other version before I pick will have Diana the Goddess of the Hunt & Moon in front of the moon in spectacular detail. It will probably have to be bigger to do that but I am willing to pay for that too. If I decide the whole thing is too busy I'll probably do the Diana tat bigger in color and separate so it'll be worth my time and money to have designed. One thing.... on the Diana part I have a photo of a friend and I want the face to be hers. It has to be a perfect "Kat Von Dee" quality portrait. We'll get to that later. First time on this site and I have been impressed with all of your portfolios. Let's se what you've got. I'm a person with alot of foresite and I want to see something that will make me say "wow" every time I look at it for the rst of my life.
OK couldn't post links on this site so had to surf around for some jpegs for references. Just wanted to clarify the look I'm asking for. I've attached 2 images. A turtle and a wolf. I do NOT like the look of the wolf. It's not what I consider a tribal look at all. The turtle has a more "Polynesian" look which is what I'm looking for in the wolf images.
There is one other very different one I'd like you to peek at. Can't find a jpeg so..... if you go to Marketplace, search under the word "tribal", then go to page 3 and look at the dolphin in the center of the top row. That's a little TOO busy for me but my point is that I want you guys to think outside the box here.
My contest title says tribal but I do like the Polynesian or Samoan style very much.
Last... for the Gemini symbol itself maybe consider two or more tones of black.. solid and another screen percentage or two to set it off. I can handle all solid black though as long as the design is really special.
My contest title says I'll double the prize if I'm REALLY blown away. Instead I'm just going to cut to the chase and up the ante right now to $200. Keep in mind that means I'm not doubling the listed prize amount in the end. Cheers!
I read the designers terms of payment and % of commission. I also thought about what I want for a days work.... and what I hope to get out of this. At that point the original price seemed low. Plus it's the holiday season so I'm feeling generous. :-)
Now think outside that box and blow me away with an Xmas gift of my own that I'll be happy with for life!
Quick update... I've added some photos. Examples of the style of animals I like. I like the Polynesian look. Again... I don't like the wolf that's included. I've also added a bunch of tribal band images. I didn't really want to do that because I don't want to influence your design at all. The first submission I got was way off though so I thought I better post some photos.
One more thing.... I definitely want the design to be wider than tall. I think Id actually like it shorter than I originally asked for. 2 inches tall would be great. A little taller ok. I'm not as picky about the width. I think 5" wide would look good but I want to give you some freedom to let your band design flow if you need it to. Wider is fine with me.
Please read my comments on the moon. Don't you agree a tribal moon is more appropriate? Let's see that in the design if you think so.
Please fire away if you have any questions.
This contest has been pre-paid. The winning artist will be paid directly by CreateMyTattoo via Paypal.

In talking with a few of you I've come up with some words I'd like to share with everyone. Maybe some things I missed up to now.
The moon and wolves should NOT create the entire outline of the piece. Instead the idea is to have them within it. I'd say start with the Gemini symbol. Work the tribal outward while keeping in mind where your moon and wolves are going to need to fit. Moon in, or around the center. In the end the design should almost work even if you removed the wolves/moon.
I think the wolves and moon are fairly simple and I'm easier to please in that department. Just remember to stick with Polynesian style though. To me the centered moon is a no brainer for positioning. The wolves though are an element that might be incorporated into the tribal work. Maybe not. ;-)
As you can see here, though fairly prominent, the wolves and moon will not be as big or dominating as the other elements, or the main focus of the design. They won't create the outline of the piece at all.
The bottom line is to have a killer Gemini symbol that just flows into a helluva piece of detailed tribal art. Hence the title of my contest "Tribal Gemini".
hint hint.... That means the Gemini symbol itself has to look WICKED bad ass. Nothing frilly or curly or even remotely feminine. That and the outside the box tribal work is going to make or break this design for me. Whoever goes insane on that stands the best chance of winning.
Have a happy New Year!
NS... pretty damn good for a first sketch. D4D you're on the right track. Hope I didn't tweek either of you guys to death. Participation is a two way street so just doin my best for those who care to take the time to listen. Alpha Dog... are you the kind who hides in the shadows in back of the doghouse then comes out teeth first! lol Just kiddin brother I know we are all busy and I have faith the Dog is on it.
To everyone else... the suspense is freakin killin me here! Let's see some more designs or hear some communication. Don't be afraid to submit rough sketches so we can get you on the right track.
This might be a good time to read the description and ammendments again. Wanted to mention a few things here too. If anyone is looking for direction or options for additional elements to add. I like Native American style. Also... if there's a spot for something symbolizing the 4 seasons, maybe around the moon, I wouldn't mind that either. Thought someone might be looking for image ideas for fillers.
Remember.... the Gemini symbol and the tribal work should dominate with the wolves moon etc smaller more like decorations or accents. Feel free to ask any questions. If you have a design you love that seems to tall or wide run it past me. I could put it on my upper calf.
I'll shut my mouth now. No more ammendments I promise so have at it!!!
I'll put him away when I submit an entry.
Game on!

First the wolves look more like the ones in the description... which I didnt like, than the Polynesian turtle which I do. The tribal animals look more like fancy puzzle pieces. Simple yet intracate. See some of the tribal dolphins in the marketplace designs.
The Gemini zodiac symbol should be kinda standard to start with... upper & lower bars arced with 2 uprights. not intertwined top and bottom like vines. Then the tribal band work will originate from those bars and goes on to have the look of the photos I'm adding to the description. That's where your crativity comes in. Some barbed wire tribal stuff looks so generic but other blow me away. The thing could almost go on, or be added on to, to be a complete band. This one ends abruptly and has a square look.
The band/symbol should be the dominant feature. The moon and wolves are more just like small gems within that part of the design. Therefore these wolves are too big for the design. They dominate it.
Last... the moon size isn't bad but it should be centered. I know it's small but Id like to actually see a couple of the more prominents craters. I've attached a helluva a moonshot for you.
I might as well tell you all though.... I have been thinking about a tribal moon as well since the realistic one kinda conlicts with the overall tribal look. You probably agree. I figured I could always swap out the moon later if I wanted. I'm so concerned with the other two images really so I didn't want to throw a wrench in the gears. Probably better to throw it out there now though. A real moon is a no brainer anyway when you look at my reference pic.
I'm glad I gave enough time for this contest. Communication is key and bouncing things back and forth takes time. We're right in the middle of the holidays too. I have a feeling though after looking at all of your portfolios that some of you are smiling because you share my vision and know you're on the right track.
Am I rambling??? I hope not. Just trying to do my part really..... and avoid watching $200 go up in smoke.
Cheers!

And a bit more detailed description to go with it. I got to thinking this is a better investment than being 99% happy which means starting a new contest right?
Maybe you guys (and ladies) can even consider submitting two designs. One that pretty much goes by the layout I suggested... and one using the key elements with a layout/design totally your own. Id love to see that.
This website is ingenious. I wish you all the best and hope the CH give you the respect and fairness you all deserve. Peace
Cheers!

Don't worry Angie... bonus points to you for being the first to reply and for giving me (and others) ideas. ;-)
A couple quick comments.... first the ying and yang idea has grown on me. After some thought though I don't know if the height of the tat is enough to use whole wolves though instead of just from the shoulder up. That's your call. I will say this... I prefer a certain look to the animals. I like this look: http://#/market/tattoo/795
or even this! (maybe)
http://#/market/tattoo/256
way better than these types:

Not sure what you call the more traditional tribal style. Polynesian or Samoan maybe.
I have a question. I think this design is probably on the simple side. Not a whole lot of fine line detail. I'm paying for the creativity more than the work I guess. But like everyone I want it to be off the charts nice. So... am I in the right price range to interest you in putting some time into this design? I know money isn't always your motivating factor but hey... we all have bills and it never hurts right. Feel free to set me straight. It'll help all of us really.
I read some of the forums and I can't believe the lack of participation and communication by some contest holders. Must be aggravating to commit to someone and find out they aren't even commited to their own idea. WTF! As you can see I'm here to let you know what I want and I'll be here come feedback time. My only regret is that I have to pick only 1 winner. I'd like to pay everyone for their time really. But this is just the first design. I love this site and I'll be back for the Daina Goddess of hunting next. Good luck!
I'm a Gemini. We think we know everything... but we're smart enough to know better than that sometimes. lol does that make sense. I'm pretty open minded because I think I should be tapping into the ideas of proffesional like you for this one. That's why I'm here instead of literally drawing my own. I'm a pretty decent artist looking for the next level of creativity.
Thanks a million for your interest. Give those kids a hug for me. ;-)
