It doesn't suprise me that your son likes it after all I am someone's 30 year old son. :) I would say it shouldn't cost more than 250 it is after all a fairly small piece. I would probably charge more like 150 but I own my shop and don't have to give half of the money to someone else. So if its more than 250 than they better be world renound. Glad you like it. Might be looking at 2 hours maybe 3 hours of work for this.

AWESOME!

Showed this to my 30 year old son who has several tattoos and he also thought this was really awesome.
Thanks for the color Its perfect and blue is what I had in mind also.
Thanks for your time I appreciate it. Also...do you have a website? And my son and I were talking about possible cost of this tattoo because of all the detail, he suggested I ask you, since you are a verteran tattooist...what do you think the time involved and the cost might be. I know all artists are different, its just a ballpark figure so I know what I am getting into. I told my son I may have to do this in stages, but I have a few months until my birthday to save up.
Thanks again!

Submitted design #22445

I had a small window of time open while at the shop. So, I did a little revision. I did the things I said i could to make it a bit more appealing. I put the border around the fish. I had too many problems trying to make it water so i kept it simple. I obscured the legs a bit with some clowds. just enough so you can still see that there are legs but enough that i think they look better. I also added a splash of color. As a general rule i don't like to do partial color pieces. I do however like this more than streight black n grey. In a piece this size i will take all the help i can get with making things more defined and i think the color does the trick. I chose blue because you asked for water but the color can be subed with pretty much any color. Just tell you tattooist you would like pink or orange or green instead of blue. If you get back to me with a color i may be able to render it on the computer to show you what it looks like. I really like this one and I hope you like it as well. Please let me know what you think.best of luck

P.S. answering your questions is part of the reason I come on this sight. I don't come on here so much for the money as I do to balance the system. There are a lot of people on this sight that don't do tattoos and think they know what is tattooable. but I know for a fact that I am not a laser printer nor is any other tattoo artist. I come on here to do everyone a solid and educate people on the subject. this makes it so contest holders like yourself don't get riped off and tattoo artist like me don't have to tell you that you got riped off. So please don't hesitate to ask ANY questions you have about the design OR tattooing in general. I may not be able to spare an hour to draw a whole new design but i am happy to give a few minuits to answer a question. For Sure! =)

Leave it the way it is, your explaination makes sense to me about why you did what you did and because of the digital watermark I didnt realize that the dragon was hugging the fish! If you think a partition around the fish is called for could it be in the shape of maybe some water? I just have one small request can you put just a splash of color in this - not full color - maybe just to highlight. Thank you for all you did I appreciate you listening and answering my questions :)

Hello, so streight to you questions. your measuring seems to be close enough maybe a little on the small side. most people have a bit of trouble imagining size on a 3 dimentional surface. I knew this though and just kind of compinsated for you. this design extends about a 1/2 in. farther in all directions so that is 3 1/2 x 6 maybe a bit shorter. if you want to test this size you can cut a piece of paper to that size then draw a top heavy diamond or kite shape that touches all 4 sides.cut that out and place it on on your arm with a little preasure it should form and stay in place. dont be afraid to wrinkle it. as far as the placement. is it a strange place? simply put. NO It is a little uncommon as a FIRST tattoo because you can't hide it. Then again most people get their first tattoo at 18 or younger (unfortunatly) If you want to show it off to the world. that is awsome. more power to you. you have been around for 60 years you deserve it. ultimatly it is you tattoo your body and your life other peoples opinions are just background noise in comparison.

Now as far as streightening out the dragon. in order to do this and still have it fit i would have to make the dragon smaller with less detail. i feel the bends and twists give it action and make it overall more dynamic. Makes it look more like a little friend on you arm rather than just a mark. I made the face a little more warm and loving and if you look at it the dragon is huggung the fishies. This is the drawing I would present to you at My shop based on your discription. I feel if you saw it in person place on your arm you would see how well it fits and be excited about you first tattoo.

The fish: now you see why i had a bit of a partition around them with the N and S in the first picture. It could be added into this one to give it a bit of seperation. offsetting the fish wouldnt look right when you aply it. the shape of this area and the fact that it will stand alone (meaning not in a sleeve) calls for it to have some semetrical parts. the circle being in the center helps give the whole design balance.

The legs: I really just drew them that way because it flowed well.. It is kind of awkward just drawing a dragon streigt on like this. I much prefer the side profile of the body for this very reason.. I don't know what i could do there that wouldn't compromize the construction of the dragon aside from just covering them with something else all togather.

I am a pretty busy guy I may or may not have a chance to work on another submission. The downside to hand drawing all the designs is that i can't just do a few clicks on the computer to fix things. I have to redraw the whole thing and it takes time. I will try though to make those changes. I hope i answered your questions well enough. in case you can't tell I don't type too well. Please let me know if you have any more questions. and if i havn't gotten another submission in by the time there is only two days left. shoot a comment on here and i will get an email notification and i will try harder to get one in. Thanks and Best of luck.

since you have done tattoos for such a long time mind if I ask some questions since I know nothing about them?
I was thinking of putting this on the inside of my right forearm. I told someone that today and they said that was a weird place for one. I am going to be sixty :) so I dont wear backless shirts or sleeveless shirts and if someone puts so much effort into design and then I pay an artist to do the tattoo itself it seems to me that it should be seen. Is this an odd place? Do you have any other suggestions for areas to do the tattoo where it can easily be seen?

That being said...when I measured my arm I measured the width with skin/ room - (in other words so it was inside my forearm if that makes sense) on either side - 2 1/2" but if I put my arm flat on a table and then press the ruler harder against the skin its like 4" so which is the proper measurement?

If I went to 4" would that give you more room to play with so that the yinyang/fish can be seen a little bit better? maybe offset to the side a bit? I want people to see the artwork without me having to point it out-- I dont know -- what do you think?

when I measured down my forearm I measured from 1" below the bend in my arm to about 2" above my wrist, I did that because someone told me it really hurts to do tattooing on the thinner skin of the wrist, is this true? I like the dragon, I love the wings, I dont like the legs/feet :) (sorry) but is there enough room to lift the head a little and straighten the tail a little if I add more inches I didnt count?

Thanks for your help and for working with me!

Alright, Here is another try. I like it. I couldn't go too much smaller with the fish/yin yang. if i went any smaller it wouldn age well. a yinyang the size of a quarter is barely ledgable after a year. With out the words I was able to open up the wings and uncoil the dragon. I also think it looks more femanine this way. Once again this design is hand drawn to ensure tattooability ( probably not a word but it should be )I hope you understand where I am coming from on this. I also hope you like it. Please let me know what you think. Best of luck.

I didn't mean to be drastic. With the words out of the design it will open things up enough to make this work. It really isn't about what is easy. I draw for a living It's about what will actually work as a tattoo. I will get some drawing time in tomorrow.

dont give up yet!

How about one more try?

1. Unfurl the dragon have it elongated(if thats the word) where it has more of a T shape I like the face and the wings

2. Get rid of the banner I can do wording later on seperate from the design

3. Make the fish smaller with no scales

4. Put the N and the S inside the dot on the fish head

Want to give it a go?

I don't like to be like this but I think you are trying to put too many elements into this tattoo. I know It looks simple enough to put more detail into this design but it's already a bit bigger than what you are asking for. Taking away the banners would just make it hard to read and look mixed into the rest of the picture. Please keep in mind that tattoos age with you and don't look sharp and fresh forever. They are also hand drawn. As it is I am not sure if I am capable of producing this for you. If you have any questions I am still here for you. Thank you for the invite. best of luck.

Good first effort!

I know its hard to envision the same thing someone else does and I appreciate you trying. So lets see about tweaking...
I like the dragon face :) would like to see whole body, especially the wing/wings, with a longish serpent tail, the main torso maybe curled halfway around small yin yang/fish, the N and the S are actually the first initails of my two kids, Nick and Shannon which is the reason I wanted the letter put in the Yin Yang, interesting how you thought North and South :) the words dont have to be in a banner if it makes things easier, does this help any?
Thank you!

Here is a shot at what you are requesting. It is however a lot of stuff to put in a small space. I have been tattooing for 12 years now and this is my best shot at getting everything in. I know i missed out on the pieces H but I just couldn't swing it. I hope you don't think it looks too masculin and bulky I did try to make it as femanine as possible. If you try to put too many thing into a small tattoo like this it can look crowded and busy. I did try my best to give it a good flow though.

This design is hand drawn. I never submit any designs that I couldn't or wouldn't tattoo myself. I think it would be a shame for someone to pay good money for a design that just can't be done in the size requested.

Well I hope you like this entry and if you have any questions about the design or tattooing in general I am here for you. Oh yeah and If you do decide to pull a few elements from your discription, when I do a consultation with a client I make 2 colums NEEDS / WANTS. I put the things that absolutly have to be in the tattoo in the needs colum and the things that would be cool to have in the wants. blabling a little aren't I? sorry. well hope you like it. Let me know what you think. Best of luck.
