yeah i do like the background! and the face is looking good. the idea behind this tat is to show my love for my country but also the angel is too protect my heart, so the clouds with the crosses actually kinda works! i sorta see it as the path to heaven (my heart) littered with the graves of those that aren't worthy! i havn't really got a very big chest so thats why i want to try and keep it smallish. i'm also a hard bastard who has a rather indifferent veiw to death so the hard looking face does kinda match my personality.

Here's my background idea, and please take a look at the design detail here, where i lined out his face. Is that about where you want it at? Any more and i'd recommend going bigger than 9cm x13cm, for the longevity of the tattoo.

Thanks a ton man! I'll have a first draft for the background tomorrow, and line out the warrior in more detail for you.

I get what you mean, not religious myself but love using religious imagery to express the contrast between moral men and criminals, good and evil, etc...Looking forward to working on the background and a more detailed warrior!

so i've increased the prize because i do appreciate your help + you've got some good ideas! yes i do like the idea of adding some sort of background that i'll be able to blend into my good sleeve and the armor of the fallen sounds really good! oh and i'm not actually all that religious! i was raised as a catholic but dont subscribe to there crap! i believe in good and evil, life and death! every action that we take is either good or evil and will result in life or death and that can happen 10000 people down the line! that is what i believe in! i love the idea of heaven and hell, angels and demons because of there ability to represent good and evil not because i'm a religious kinda guy!

First up, since we're going with some additional work, are you open to some background elements?

It'd be pretty rad to have some holy flames blowing behind him in the direction of the angel on your arm, Or some clouds with memorial crosses on them and the armor of fallen angelic soldiers..even though that doesn't make much sense from a christian perspective, i think it'd be pretty badass, and in theme with your good and evil split chest and sleeves.

Secondly--think you could throw a dog a bone and up the prize money a tad for the additional time i'll be investing?
It's cool if not I'm still working with you to the end here, but i'd appreciate it a lot--and it'd get you more options from other artists (it's probably bad of me to suggest it since i want that cash 'myself..)

i love detail my pc is a custom built gaming pc, i've got it connected to a 48" hd plasma via hdmi and graphical detail is my favorite thing! the flash that i chose for my skull tat looks nothing like the flash art that i chose but i was really lucky that i had a really good tattoist doing the job! that's one of the reasons why i'm getting you to design a custom tat, so that i get what i really want rather than just something that i had to settle with because it was all that i could find!

When you say more realistic, you mean more detailed? i tried and compliment the line style of your female angel on your arm, instead of overpowering it with realism, but i'm certainly able to go more detailed at this scale.

yep i agree in front of his head would look a lot better! and perhaps we could make him more gritty and realistic too cause at the moment he looks a lot like a childrens cartoon, i liked the blood that you had on him in earlier sketches!

Knowing that you're really solid on the design that you're wanting is part of what makes this process so fun, and why i start out with really basic sketches. They don't call it a custom tattoo for no good reason, and your satisfaction is what makes me satisfied as well.

I hope to have the line art well underway tonight, so i'll post it up in the next two days.

I like it were getting a lot closer to the look that i'm after. maybe we could drop the empty hand down to a more horizontal position, more battle ready if you know what i mean. as for the star well i want it to be seen as the southern cross so maybe try keeping it offset but keep the cross lines between the other stars.

The desired dimensions you described don't work for what you're asking, which has been why I've been trying to narrow the image. 9" wide by 13" tall doesn't allow for the kind of pose you want with the wings outstretched. So you want it wider than it is tall instead--right? Uploaded a sketch that's scrap due to this information, starting a new one now.

i'm thinking maybe two hands holding sword high facing straight on with the stoic battered stare. i want a straight on pose to really bring out the cross on the torso, it needs to be one of the main features. a turned pose doesn't really let the cross catch the eye.

Will have the poses later tonight. I'll have a rough pose drawing for both so you can see and choose, then we'll proceed with whichever you like.

raised above the head will probably draw the eye to his chest plates design more than your other idea, pulling the arms together will hide the chest area, which will make him look more defensive.

it's looking a lot better but maybe we could lose the stars on the wrist gaurds, shoulders and groin plates and make the stars white and the cross lines red. also i reckon facing forwards with the sword held down in front with both hands or raised above the head would look awesome! but it is definitely looking good!

i like it! more armor maybe gauntlets and chain mail. as for the pose can you make him face forwards and the armour needs to to be more of a silver/gunmetal colour. but it is looking pretty good
