It could also be a rendering of those objects in line are or something. Doesn't have to be the full object but enough to identify each whether it is the coloring or the lines of the object.

I have extended the contest and uploaded some images that I like. Keep in mind on want the eagle going left to right...whether it is flying or just the head looking.

That's a little better. Maybe flip the flag so the stars are in front of the talons. I don't care for the way the flag is twisted.

More of a worn down, weathered look. Doesn't have to be the whole flag either, could just be part of flag but enough that you know what it is.
