Thanks a bunch for all your input! Im glad you are happy with the design. If you end up choosing one of my designs I will talk to you again after the contest. Until then, I am going to pick up some other projects and keep busy. :)
I've kinda fallen in love with bust to be honest. Looks a lot more personal, if that makes any sense.. If you up the size i'll just put it on my back over the shoulder blade area instead =)
Would shading it look good or would that be a bad idea ?
I keep feeling like the detail I try to add to the full sized moose would be too fine for the size it will be? I did want to know though, -if- you chose the full sized moose, would you contemplate doing it a bit larger on your arm? It is a tall and narrow design, so if you made the mooses legs go down your arm, say... 12cm wide x 17cm tall... I could definitely add more detail.
I recommend doing the moose bust at 11 cm being the size of the head and chin from bottom to top, and let the antlers wrap around your shoulder, they would be about 13 or 14 cm wide, rather than 10.
I am going to see if I cant put a little more linework in the full sized moose too. Im not sure if it will get too crowded or not. We will see what I can do.
I grew up with moose, and yes i have a japanese chin =) And i figured i'd do the cheesy thing and get a tattoo with both, but been hard to find someone who can draw both and add it together =)
Well I thought if you wanted to stick with solid black, I might try doing some stark black shadows, rather than shading. When I started shading it, I had to shade all of it to make it look right, so I went in this direction instead, so that we could keep it simple and iconic.
Alright heres the basic linework for the full moose and chin. I know you said you just wanted the black line work, but do you mean you dont want any shading at all? I want to shade this, at least minimally. Particularly on that back leg and under the belly where it would be in shadow. Also the chins spots need to be colored. I think I am going to just go ahead and shade this with a few splashes of black and see what you think. I will preserve the linework as the stencil.
Righto. As I said, I also like both ideas. I will get to work on inking in the moose with the chin beside it, and I will also send you a design of the moose bust with chin on top. :)
Okay so... As I worked on this I ran across a few things I need to ask about. I will break it down so I can get the best feedback in order to give you the design you are looking for.
Observation: A moose is HUGE, and a Chin is itty bitty! If the tattoo will be relatively small, this means the chin will be very VERY small, and that means we cant do much detail on it, or the ink will just look like a blob.
Solution: If you want the WHOLE moose, the Chin needs to be beside it in profile, so that even with less detail, it is still recognizable.
OR
Solution: Instead of a whole moose, you could take just the head and I will add a neck and ruff to it to make a bust of the moose with the Chin on top. This way everything is enlarged a bit and I can do the Chins face in more detail.
I think they are both excellent poses, I just want to know what you prefer. Let me know what you think and I will start cleaning it up into a final draft for you.
P.S. Color or just Black ink linework or greyscale shading?
Be well and be well!
I think thats a wrap, dont you?
Okay all better!
Shading!
The image is already 300 dpi, so it can be re-sized larger or smaller quite easily.

Any thoughts?

Its absolutely beautiful !
Can't believe how talented you are.
Heres the bust version, I could do a lot more detail since it would be more zoomed in.

This is such a unique design! Curiosity has finally gotten the best of me. Is a moose your totem? Do you own a Japanese Chin?
In case you chose the linework version, I added a bit more detail to eyes and antlers

And the new submission is perfect when not upside down !
One moment while I fix that.

I am glad you like my work!
And i like both...
Just the moose head and the chin on top its a little tricky to see that its a chin, still adorable though =)
And with the chin by the feet it doesnt have to be realistically sized...then the chin would just be a tiny dot compared to the moose =)
Im curious what the bust would look like though, is it possible to do a small sketch to show me circa what it would look like?
