Summary:
I'd like a montage of Army Aviation (UH-60), Army Airborne, OIF, and OEF to commemorate my time spent in combat.
Description:
I would like to add to an existing tattoo on my right upper arm. I am ending the completion of my third combat tour and would like a tribute to my time spent in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Here is a link that shows both my existing tattoo as well as a very rough idea of the pieces I have in mind to add to my arm. http://yodasplace.weebly.com/
The pieces I want to include in the tattoo involve:
- US Army Aviation (I'm a UH-60 Blackhawk Pilot) - perhaps aviator wings, Blackhawks in flight, or both
- US Army Airborne (I'm also a Paratrooper) - perhaps airborne wings, a picture of an airborne operation, or both
- The US Army Combat Action Badge
- A reference to both Iraq and Afghanistan (was originally thinking a drawing of both countries as illustrated at the link above, but am open to suggestions.
I intend to have my currently existing tattoo redone at the same time I make any additions, and I envision the current tattoo maintaining a central role in the design.
The overall dimensions of the space to work with are approximately 8 inches high by 7 inches wide. In relation to the existing tattoo, the usable space is about 2 inches on top, 1.5 inches each on the left and right, and 5-6 inches on the bottom.
Additional Details:
- Gender: Male
- Size: 7 x 8 inches
- Detail: Medium
- Winning artist must provide stencil / line work at completion of contest
Payment Methods:
This contest has been pre-paid. The winning artist will be paid directly by CreateMyTattoo via Paypal.
Thanks for removing the fuel probe. Can you also remove the Airborne Wings and Aviation Wings from the bottom left and right of design #4459? I like it better without the wings. The pictures of the paratrooper and Blackhawk are enough for that part of the tattoo.
In other words, I like #4452 minus the fuel probe.
Thanks so much.
Kiel
I love your design. It just needs one change. Can you please remove the fuel probe from the nose of the Blackhawk? The birds I fly don't have them.
Like I said in previous posts, I've been partial to color in the past, but quality shading can sometimes beat color....and I love your use of shading. Great contrast to the existing color in my original art.
Cheers.
Thanks,
Kacy
I do prefer some detail rather than an overly-simplistic sketch, but as I stated above, I won't know until I can see the entries to compare.
Thanks.
I would like to give you more choices. =) I may enter a couple outlines/sketches to see what you like the most and then make a final product.
You're absolutely right, and I'm glad you asked for clarification. The pieces I provided in my original post are simply examples. If placing both the Airborne Wings and Airborne Picture causes the tattoo to become too cluttered, than I would rather have just the Airborne Picture. Same thing for the Aviation Wings and Blackhawk Picture (I'd rather have the picture than the wings if we're dropping one of them).
The only badge that I must have in the tattoo is the Combat Action Badge. The other badges can be represented via there respective pictures. Additionally, if you come up with a better way to represent Iraq and Afghanistan other than a drawing of the countries, I'm all for new ideas. It's just something I've seen on a friend and it looked pretty cool.
Also, the actual location in relation to the original tattoo is up to you...whatever looks good. If the Blackhawk looks best on the bottom with the Combat Action Badge on top, no problem. I'm all about whatever makes it the most aesthetically pleasing tattoo.
Cheers.
I am partial to some color in my tattoos, but quality shading can take the place of color (especially if it helps to keep the original tattoo as the centerpiece). The main thing that I think I'd want colored in might be the Iraq and Afghanistan pieces...but I'd have to see a color vs the B&W to be sure. I don't want the to overshadow the original piece.
I like your first submission in concept. But, I'm not sure about the proportions of the added art. I think that we'd either want to increase the emphasis on the Airborne and Blackhawk pieces or decrease the emphasis on the Combat Action Badge....or a combination of both. I think you've got the size of the two countries about right.
Thanks.
Given that you want your original piece to stay as a central element in the new design...the organization of all the other elements you provide takes away from the orignal piece and sort of blends alltogther....especially with the second set of wings above the orginal one....
I would say either...spread the other elements out and essientally make it into a half-sleeve to incoprate it all, or limit them and use the rest to make another tattoo....
Give me your feedback as to what you really want out of this tattoo and we can figure something out
Cheers,
Paul
Cheers.
Take care,
Ki.
Comment: I don't want to give the impression that I'm dedicated to the design layout I added in my original post. I do want the items I described to be included in the tattoo, but I'm very open to artists' interpretation and creative designs when it comes to how the items are included in the tattoo.
Question for the Artists: Am I over-reaching with my design (i.e. is it too complicated to try to attempt)? Or, is this design simply something that no one's been interested in attempting? If I can get some written feedback from the artists out there, maybe we can modify the design to something that is more achievable.
Thanks in advance.
