I'm going to see if I can try to explain my design choices here. The reason I chose to have the overall shape of the design as a 'C' is because I feel it allows the image to read better, then just a filled in oval shape. I believe the area a design takes up is as important as the area it doesn't take up.

I imagined the top curve of the monsters paralleling the top of your shoulder, then the character would fall right above your elbow. Then the creatures would be going up a good portion of your arm, really only leaving your bicep bare. And this is me picturing the tattoo on the right arm. If you would want it on the left, it can just as easily be flipped.
nevermind.

Bent life - Thanks for your time - I like it. It's kinda plain - but that's understandable as it's an outline sketch - no point in busting balls to do a proper draft with colours if i'm going to pick holes out of it. But being honest, I really do prefer the ankle/size/feel of Sputnic's. The creatures in yours do look more solid/formed but I don't think there's enough of them?

Sputnic - Just seen your comments and questions with your design which I've just stumbled across;

A) My skin tone is caucasian
B) Yeah It'll be wrapped around my arm to a point... as I've got text on the inside of both arms
C) Yeah right arm, I think ?!

Just a further point - i've kinda' made a decision after looking at Sputnic's for about two hours solid. Everything about the guy, the shading/shadowing and the angle and scale is perfect, absolutely, I don't want any of that changing. It's just the creatures that i'd like changing to make them look more like Alex Pardee's in his piece... in the same vein (trying not to confuse things but I know I am) I also do like the expanse and volume of the creatures in your design, giving the overall tattoo a consistant oval shape with hardly any space for skin.

Sorry, forgot to mention aswell, I know I had said I wanted the guy to have spiky hair but I somehow forgot to envisage that this is where I wanted the creatures to be bursting out from.

I'm open to how it's done, i.e. the way you've done it, or some sort of hole in his head and a narrow stream of the creatures travelling out and then bursting above his head... so the guy can still have hair.

Cheers!

Thanks for taking the time out to put a design up.

First off, the design of the guy is near perfect. It's rugged, it's gloomy, it's what I had in my head - and better. Secondly, i'm liking the scale of it, I wasn't sure about the full body scale as I didn't want it to detract/negate the emphasis I wanted on the creatures. Which leads me to what I consider the main part of the piece. They're extravagant to say the least but they're a little too... maybe too swirly? If that's even the right word. I picture them a little more solid and formed, and some with features.

Thanks for the effort though, appreciated.

That's something i've noticed in a couple of the contests - maybe i'm too much of a back seat driver to just say nothing or give a limited description... if anything i'm trying to transfer the image in my head to yours, and anyone else who is trying to visualize it.

Cool, though, i'll be checking to see what you come up with.

Defiantly good to hear. It's surprising how many people make a posting, then give little to no feedback during the duration of the contest. I should have a pencil drawin' up for u to review in the next couple days or so.

I would just like to say this is a very sick idea for a tattoo, and I know I am going to have a blast trying to tackle this one. Thanks for the all the detail in your description. I defiantly have a clear idea of where I am going with this one.
