I know by now everyone noticed that i got an extension on my contest.........i pray this gives everyone time to get their final designs made. I also well get some better pictures of the tattoo that i need covered so its easier for all the artist.

In order to accurately map out where your intended design will fit best with your current tattoo, we need a profile shot of your shoulder taken directly from the side and at a much closer range. Front, back and 3/4 profile pics taken at that range would also help.
Ask a friend to do it. Don't just bounce a pic off the mirror in the shitter with your cell phone and think it's gonna fly.

Please tell me you didn't pay for that? And if you got it at a shop............. did you do your civic duty and toss a firebomb into that mother-fckr?!!

These guys are absolutely right. Covering that up is gonna be a serious challenge. Big, bold, black lines like that aint gonna disappear completely, even if you covered it with a tribal. Not to mention, from the pictures the tattoo appears to be very heavy-handed and it left you with some serious scar tissue. Laser treatments might actually be the only way to get exactly what you are looking for.

However, four hundred dollars is a lot to spend on a bunch of dudes telling you, "no."
So I'm gonna give it a go as well as show you some other possibilities and options.

Bloodline3 is right: Your current tattoo is too dark and dense to do a decent coverup. Only black covers black. My best solution is to go have a couple of laser tattoo removal sessions. Black ink is lightened pretty quickly with lasers. You would only need maybe two sessions, most likely. You don't have to remove your tattoo, just lighten it up. After that you can get the design you have described tattooed pretty easily. I had one laser session on my large tribal ankle tattoo then had it covered in pink flowers. If I have time to work on your contest, I will design something intended to cover the gray ink after laser removal.

I figure that it would b a difficult task, so i am open to ideas that u as an artist may have. I already hav some work on the other shoulder so the matching tattoo wouldnt work, but just let me kno if u hav any similar ideas that may work?

The new design that you want as a cover is not going to work too well here my brother, think of it in terms of positive and negative space, positive being the black ink and negative being your skin. There is too much positive space in the center to be able to get Jah lion's front paw and face in cleanly, it is going to end up looking messy. I don't know if you have asked around at any tattoo shops but they I'm sure they are going to tell you this same thing. A suggestion would be to get the new design you want on the opposite arm matching in size and theme. I know your really looking to get rid of your existing tattoo and that can be done, just not(good) in the way you you are looking for here. Holla if you hear me.

Uploading the Dog so I can do the Big Cat. Color ain't gonna cover like black will. Do you see how dark the badass lion of Judah is? That's about what it's going to take to do the job and it's gonna take 8-10 hours in a chair. So bring your Percodan!

I have some ideas, meself, I'll start a thread so we can discuss them.

I should b able to mess with the idea. I've been a tattoo artist for 7 yrs now and I'm definitely going to try my nest at coming up with a design that'll work as a cover-up, and not just a pretty picture

well if thats the best way to do it, it sounds good to me. ur the artist it wud kinda b in my best interest to take as much advice from u as i can.....i was just a lil concerned that the lion is coverin some parts of the flag n was wondering if this would affect ur plan in anyway?

this is a challenge that id like to try and take on, but i had another question: your flags, would you mind if the waiving flags stayed the same for the different drawing? it would be hard for you to go into a shop, and have them cover em with new flags. the top;s could b changed, and the lion most likely covered, but since lines are so thick. im afraid if you tried to cover the waiving pieces with new ones, you would see some bold lines from the old tattoo underneath it. the lion and the bible verse, and coloring the flags, would serve as a distraction, and make it look like a different piece
