Appended Description (August 11 2010 7:07pm):
Anyway, as stated in the summary, I would like the tattoo to be simple, clean and with an elegant font/look. Flowing lines for example. Hour Glass also not too detailed (and not that large), I mentioned sand but that is not nessecary. If you can simply, cleanly and elegantly incorporate the theme of balance or life and death please feel free, again I stress clean, elegant and simple. Possibly flowing lines but feel free to be creative. I was thinking the first two words ontop of the bottom two, with the hourglass beside approx same height as the stacked words. Thanks!

Here is a design I made for myself which incorporates the look I am going for. This is the layout I want, but am open to a few similar ideas.

I love that font it is called BIlly Argel and can be found here:

I would like the design to incorporate that font or look of the font and the hourglass to be on an angle or a-symetrical but to the right of the writting. I would like to see the hour glass also have flowing lines and match the font so it all blends together elegantly and simply.
Thanks!

I also like the format of #5361. Don't really like that hourglass though. A different one, with maybe a line(s) originating from the font and into or around a different hourglass might tie things together. Might be an idea.
Thank you for your contribution.
I dig number 3 out of your designs. The two headed aztec hourglass. 4 might be more symmetrical.. I researched its meaning/inspiration of shedding skin and rebirth, think it fits with the whole theme. The tattoo is not going to be super large so the design would have to be limited in detail. Not sure if tatts bleed as much in 20 years as they used too!
Dixtracted,
So far 5410 is my favorite layout/'format.
Hi, thanks for your contributions so far. Please continue with more of your own ideas.
Bleeddna,
I appreciate your trying to make the hour glass more 'flowing', however it is a little too abstract for me. With further reflection it seems it would be difficult to make a 'flowing' hourglass without it being abstract!
Dixtracted,
I like where you are going, however with the writing imprinted over the hour glass the image is a little too 'complicated' and convoluted for my tastes.
Some more suggestions I would appreciate seeing: Try keeping the same font but making it more ornate. So perhaps the first letter has lines that flow for some length. Maybe squeeze the hour glass in between the words...
And of course I am open to other ideas if you feel like throwing them out there. Thanks again for your work and time.
I appreciate the idea, and simplicity of your drawing, however it is not the look I am going for. I have just now attached an image (amended description) I made with a look I really like, however I would love to see it tied together more, or more creativity, flowing lines to match the font with an hourglass. I also love the font I found, it is called Billy Argel Font. Here is a link http://www.fontspace.com/billy-argel/billy-argel-font
