Summary:
Intertwined celtic sea turtles meets celtic knots.
Description:
I'm looking for a Celtic band similar to the traditional zoomorphic knots from the book of Kells. Flexible for either monochrome or color. Traditional Irish color pallet or sea life blues/green would be my preference. I'm thinking shin band, ankle band or upper arm band for location all will depend on the size/detail of the design. This holds family signifigance for me. If possible I'd like 3-4 turtles featured. Also inclusion of the letters D, C, and C, representing my wife and my two daughters. I'm including some photos that should be viewed as a motif and not an exact desire. I'm a dude but the turtles don't need to look uber pissed off.
Additional Details:
- Contest Length: 14 Days
- Gender: Male
- Size: 10 x 3 inches
- Detail: High Detail Design
- Winning artist must provide stencil / line work at completion of contest
Appended Description (August 11 2012 10:14pm):
Please don't bother using the celtic turtle tattoo that shows up en masse when doing a google search. (i.e. this one is no good. [removed]mctmp(0);)
I've got 8 designs submitted using it and none of them meet the description of what I'm looking for. If I could have found a concrete example of a good celtic turtle I would have linked to it for your reference.

Thanks for responding. Your interpretation sounds good. I think it's fair to say that the head and neck can also be incorporated into the knotwork as well. I've included additional examples in band form below.
I saw this design years ago and that is what inspired this contest. Since these are rings it's tough to make sense of the finer details but at least you can gain a sense for where I initially was coming from. They have examples with up to 4 animals in these rings as reference.

So, I'm looking at your descriptions and your web examples that are all wheel shaped or triangle forms, but you want this as a band with 3 to four turltles. So to go around your arm or leg you are thinking that the turtles all follow each other being connected by their legs... the legs are knotted in celtic chains... sound right so far? Then you want celtic designs within each turtle shell incorporating your initials?
I want to get the design idea right in my mind before taking on such celtic design work. Since you have the time in your contest, Ill wait for a reply before I make any attempts.
Thanks
I've summed up some of the conversations I've had privately to add additional detail for your reference.
If I had to provide priorities, I’d say I’d like this to look like a celtic tattoo first and foremost. The sea turtle has a great deal of significance to me but I’m not going for an ocean scene. I really wanted the limbs of the turtles intertwined in knots to provide that structure and for it to be in color but outlined in black . The sea turtle has some great textures that I would want to have incorporated in the limbs and the head. The shells could definitely be more celtic abstract, introducing the initials which can be subtle but present.
Like the tradition, I envisioned the arms and head to resemble the actual beast with the exception that their limbs are very long and make a complex set of knot work that makes the band.
In the tattoo image referenced below see the use of positive and negative space as to what is the beast and what is in shadow, as it wrapped around there would be nice separation of the positioning of the shell and the knotwork that moves around between points.
